Gomez, Hernandez with Top-10 Finish at SCC Championships, Earns All-Conference Nods

For the second straight year, East Los Angeles College women's cross country has been amongst the top-ten teams in SoCal and in the state. They kept pace earlier today at the South Coast Conference Championships at Mt. SAC, as sophomore Xitlali Diego Gomez and freshman Jasmine Hernandez finished ninth (19:29.2) and 10th (19:35.0) respectively. It was the third straight year that ELAC had at least one runner place in the top-ten of the conference championships.

The duo's finishes - along wth their overall successes on the season - earned them All-SCC Second-Team honors.

"The goal is the reach the top podium as a team," said head coach Milton Browne. "To go from just having one runner make top-ten to two means we're moving in the right direction as a program."

Browne was pleased with his duo's performace today. "They performed good," said coach. He also commented on the overall team performance, stating, "Weve had injuries that set us back, but we still had a good season so far. Big improvement from last season."

The women will race at the SoCal Regional Championships next Friday in San Diego as they look to punch their ticket to State. The Huskies are familiar with the 5K Naval Training Center Park course, as they ran it last month in the Manny Bautista Open. Hernandez finished 17th (19:54.94) while Gomez placed 33rd (20:22.91). Can both women beat those respective times? To wit: they had their best individual times in the 5K at UC Riverside Invite back on September 27; 19:21.6 for Hernadez and 19:44.3 for Gomez.
