Covarrubias Lone Bright Spot in Dual vs Bakersfield
by Cerwin D Haynes
East LA College Men's Wrestling is off to a slow start for the season. And unfortunately, the Huskies overall couldn't reverse course tonight versus a quality Bakersfield College squad.
But there was one Pack star on the evening: freshman 184-pounder Noah Covarrubias.
On an evening where his teammates kept falling via pin or tech, the freshman battled back and forth with Bakersfield's Cash Cancel in a spirited first period. Covarrubias kept up with Cancel to start and even scored the Huskies' first takedown of the evening. Trailing 5-4 with about a minute to go in the period, Covarrubias scored another takedown on Cancel and had the Renegade on his back. Covarrubias moved into position and scored the pin mere seconds later.
Covarrubias scored ELAC's only points on the night as the Huskies fell to the Renegades 51-6
UP NEXT:
The Pack head North again, this time to West Hills Lemoore this Saturday for the Lemoore Individual Tournament. And next Friday, Oct 3, the Golden Eagles - who are hosting this weekend's event - will come down to the "E-rena" to face ELAC in dual action.
