East Los Angeles College softball broke through a scoreless game in the latter innings and rode strong pitching the rest of the way to earn a 3–0 shutout victory over #9 State-ranked Long Beach City College.

Turning Point – 5th Inning

ELAC broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fifth:

  • Sophomore RF Bella Garcia singled and moved into scoring position with aggressive baserunning.

  • With two outs, Freshman C Danica Henriquez roped an RBI double to deep right field to plate the game's first run in Garcia.

Insurance in the 6th

The Huskies, with a tight 1-0 lead, added breathing room in the sixth:

  • With two-out, freshmen SS Emily Ramirez and DP Ava Sanchez delivered back-to-back singles. Kamila Obeso came on to pinch-run for Sanchez at first.

  • Both runners advanced on a passed ball.

  • Garcia came through again, lining a two-RBI single to left to extend the lead to 3–0.

Garcia finished going 2-3 with 2RBI, and a run scored.

Lockdown Pitching & Defense

Freshman pitching sensation Nadine Gutierrez (8-3) kept Long Beach in check all afternoon

  • Limited the Vikings to five hits across all seven innings

  • Escaped multiple innings with runners in scoring position.

  • Closed the door with three quick outs in the seventh

  • Went the distance for the complete-game shutout, striking out seven with no walks.

The defense was sharp when it mattered most, turning routine plays and preventing any late-inning threats.

HUSKY BITS

  • Ramirez finished 1-2 at the plate with a run scored.
  • Henriquez went 1-1 (RBI double) with a walk.
