The men's track & field team from East Los Angeles College opened its 2026 campaign with strong performances at the 2026 SCC Opener on Feb. 7 in Torrance (El Camino College).
Liu Wins 60m Dash
Sophomore William Liu led the way for ELAC, capturing the men's 60 meters in 6.88, the fastest time of the meet. Liu's explosive start and smooth drive phase separated him from the field, giving the Huskies their first event victory of the season. And just a hair behind him was his fellow soph Cristian Dineros, taking second with a time of 6.89.
For Liu, the win not only shows he's recovered from his late-season injury of last spring, but that he's ready to build on a strong freshman campaign and be the anchor head coach Milton Browne envisions for the team to vie for serious State contention. He also placed second in the men's 150m Dash with a time of 16.25, while Dineros finished fifth (16.47).
Strong Middle-Distance Showing
ELAC showed solid depth in the 400 meters with multiple entries competing on the day. Freshmen Carter Cousins (53:32), Daniel Gamboa (53:500 and Caden Minohara (54.33) finished 3-4-5 respectively. Sophomore Jonathan Alfaro placed fourth (2:05.89) in the 800m - an event where ELAC has had strong contendership in recent years.
Other Noted Performances
Freshman Maurion Jones placed fourth in the long jump with a 6.42m mark. Freshman Aaron Ponce had a good day throwing in the field: he placed third in the javelin (42.93m) and seventh in the discus (32.29m).
UP NEXT:
The Pack's next stop is the Soka Indoor Outdoor on February 14. Hopefully the track will show the Huskies some love with continued good results.
